During this session, artists and art historians will evaluate the specific contributions that the visual arts can make in respect of the diverse processes, practices and aesthetics that pertain to decolonisation. Focusing on the Japanese colonisation of Okinawa and the problematics of decolonising Okinawa, the discussion will feature the artistic work of Yuken Teruya. The overall idea is to establish a dialogue on the need to rethink and reorient our various perspectives on decolonisation. The role of the visual arts can be very purposeful in this regard.
