Responsibilities included: • From 2003, management, review and assessment of the Defra TSE R & D programme (30 on-going projects, annual budget £7M) • From 2007, responsibility for the TSE Surveillance Programme (annual budget, £25M) utilising facilities at the central laboratory, Weybridge in Surrey and 15 regional laboratories in England, Wales and Scotland. Note: The Defra’s Animal Health and Veterinary Laboratory Agency (AHVLA) was later re-named the Animal and Plant Health Agency. • Retired December 2016.
