Description

The 'Racing in the East' exhibition, curated by Dr Richard Mills, travelled to the national Speedway Show 2024. This annual event is hosted at the British Motor Museum, Gaydon, Warwickshire. As the biggest event of its kind, it received widespread media and social media coverage, as famous riders, professional clubs, exhibitors, traders, and fans descended on the venue. This was the first event to see 'Racing in the East' venture beyond East Anglia in order to take the story to a broad national audience. Underpinned by two Open Access research articles which bring together the Centre of East Anglian Studies and the East Centre for the study of East and Central Europe and the former Soviet space, 'Racing in the East' underlines the region’s stature in international motorsport, highlights the extensive interactions between East Anglia and the wider world, and celebrates migrant riders and foreign machines that stood in the vanguard of continental interactions with the region.
