Description

My post-retirement, non-profit consultancy is built on my experience in prion diseases, food safety, risk assessment, project management, and creative and non-fiction writing.

Projects include:
• Grant and manuscript review: I was a member of the Scientific Advisory Board (SAB) of the Alberta Prion Research Institute (APRI), Canada, 2016-2023, and I currently serve as a grant reviewer for the Alberta Innovates Chronic Wasting Disease Research programme. This is a non-commercial interest.
• I engage in not-for-profit, public information work including, last November, a talk to the U3A (University of the Third Age), “Soccer and Dementia”[available on request]. I used this U3A forum to promulgate the work of Michael Grey and his colleagues at UEA; they are part of a SCORES initiative using on-line cognitive and motor tasks to gauge neurological deficit in a larger national investigation of CTE.
• I have continued a self-funded, scientific engagement and writing strategy including publication of one book chapter, in 2018 (pdfs of these publications are available on request), and a poster/abstract for the Prion 2019 scientific meeting in Edmonton, Alberta co-authored with Professor Jason Bartz, Creighton University, Nebraska, a fellow APRI SAB member. In 2023, I wrote a short non-fiction piece in a National Writing Centre Anthology, A Life Written, published by Anglia Ruskin University and NCW on soccer and neurological disease, “What do these people have in common?”.
