Description
This impact work, which is part of the larger Dehydration Impact case for REF 2027, will involve me providing evidence-based educational resources to the general public and health and social care professionals about the risks of low-intake dehydration to older people. I will co-design visually appealing and accessible A3 posters to display on notice boards in GP surgeries, hospitals and older persons’ care homes in Norfolk and Waveney. Similarly, I will display the same A3 posters in Queen’s building and Elizabeth Cavell building reception areas at UEA, for health and social care professionals and students to view.I will firstly design two draft posters; one version for health and social care professionals (staff-facing spaces), and one version for the public (public-facing spaces). I will then organise and advertise a one-hour, online co-production workshop and invite eight older people to attend the workshop. I will facilitate the workshop and invite workshop attendees to contribute to, and comment on the design, accessibility and language used on the draft public-facing A3-sized posters, to be used to educate the general public about older people’s risks of dehydration. A design company (quote received) will design the poster artwork, to be printed in colour and laminated; then to design a second poster, aimed at educating health and social care professionals about the risks of dehydration to older people. Both posters will include logos for my PhD Studentship sponsors UEA and NIHR ARC East of England logos. Both posters will also include a QR code which will link to further UEA hydration research activities of which my research is part of.
I will then package and post:
1. 2 x ‘public’ posters and 2 x ‘health and social care professional’ posters to each of the 163 GP surgeries in Norfolk and Waveney.
2. 10 x ‘public’ posters and 10 x ‘health and social care professional’ posters to each of the 13 hospitals in Norfolk and Waveney.
3. 2 x ‘public’ posters to 215 older people’s care and nursing homes in Norfolk.
I will include a letter within each parcel to describe the context of the posters and providing a link to the digital copies of the posters, should the recipients choose to digitally display the posters. The letter will also include an invitation for recipients to express an interest in receiving further materials/training relating to older people’s hydration, in the future.
I will also share the public posters more widely on social media and websites of relevant organisations, which promote the health and wellbeing of older people.
