The topic of discussion was ‘best practice’ frameworks for leveraging privacy enhancing technologies (PETs) to share personal data in compliance with the “anonymization” requirements under GDPR. It explored issues such as how anonymisation is defined in law, whether it is achievable in practice, what factors to consider when assessing the risk of reidentification. The seminar was informed by research on Functional anonymisation: Personal data and the data environment and the UKAN Anonymisation Decision Making Framework.
