experts. It will offer an opportunity to consider some of the key
trends shaping the world, and allow for candid exchanges in a

how further to work together to address global economic and
security challenges.

In a volatile and increasingly contested world, genuine strategic partnerships are crucial as the consequences of interdependence in critical areas require collective responses. The UK and Japan relationship is the strongest it has been for decades. Their engagement has increased significantly in recent years, as encapsulated in the landmark Hiroshima Accord agreed in 2023. The two countries also have common interests on which to work together, and in a fast-changing international system have much to contribute to a more stable, secure and just world through continuing to develop their strategic engagement. Japan and the UK are already working together (bilaterally and with others) to ensure the international rules-based system remains resilient in the face of emerging challenges. However, the challenges of managing global security, building economic resilience and bolstering the multilateral system will remain significant, and it is valuable to keep thinking about how best to do this.
