Activity: Participating in or organising an event › Public lecture/debate/seminar
Description
“I feel most colored when I am thrown against a sharp white background,” Zora Neale Hurston wrote in her ground-breaking essay, “How It Feels to Be Colored Me.” Hurston understood the power of place and space to hinder or promote self-expression. This talk explores – and celebrates – ways in which Black women writers have nourished themselves and others through developing and occupying affirming places and spaces in opposition to oppressive environments.
