DescriptionA digital skills programme is helping young people who have been in care to build skills and confidence.

A group supported by the charity Break has completed a six-week Digital Skills Programme in partnership with the University of East Anglia (UEA).

The course covered digital marketing, online safety, website analysis and artificial intelligence.

Dr Lucill Curtis, from Norwich Business School, said: "It was an absolute pleasure to teach the young people from Break again this year.

"We were able to cover a variety of topics related to digital marketing over the six-week course duration."

The programme, delivered by experts from UEA’s Norwich Business School, aimed to equip young people with practical digital skills while boosting their confidence and helping them explore further education.

Participants received certificates and references to support future education, training and employment opportunities.

Dr Curtis said: "The course culminated in a presentation with feedback which really helped to embed new ideas and practical solutions to common marketing scenarios for the young people.

"We very much look forward to continuing our mutually beneficial relationship with Break, as we start planning for the next academic year."
This is the second year Break and UEA have run the programme.

Louise Gooding, from Break, said: "It was wonderful to continue offering the digital skills programme with the support of James and Lucill at UEA.

"Moving the programme to the UEA campus for the first time provided our care leavers with a valuable opportunity to experience a new environment and explore university life.

"Their final presentations demonstrated not only the digital skills they had developed, but also their ability to think critically, evaluate digital marketing approaches and present their ideas with confidence."
