Organisation profile
As one of the world’s leading centres for the study of film, television and media, our department produces innovative, interdisciplinary research and is currently home to five major AHRC-funded projects.
Drawing on a range of methodologies and approaches, our expertise spans audience and reception studies, British film and television, community media, feminist media studies, popular culture and music, world cinemas and the digital humanities.
The focus of our research in recent years can be grouped into three key areas:
-
British Film and Television
-
Feminist Media Studies
-
Media and Cultural Consumption
Since 2014, our researchers have successfully generated grants totalling over £2.4 million from the Arts and Humanities Research Council (AHRC), the British Film Institute (BFI) and other funding bodies. These projects having included collaborations with Anglia Television, the East Anglia Film Archive and the British Science Association, and have enabled us to make significant contributions to wider public discourses around media policy, the creative industries and cultural life.
