The marketing group at Norwich Business School is renowned for its high standards in research, teaching and engagement with the industry. The group is led by Dr. Jonathan Wilson.
Scholars in the group actively engage with the production and dissemination of knowledge that contributes to a better understanding of marketing and consumer behaviour. Our research outputs have appeared in top tier journals such as the Journal of Retailing, Journal of the Academy of Marketing Science, International Journal of Research in Marketing, Journal of Product Innovation Management, British Journal of Management, Journal of World Business, Tourism Management, Journal of Travel Research, Journal of International Marketing and other journals. The members of the group regularly present in leading conferences such as the ACR, AMA, AMS, EMAC, and WMC, among others.
The group members are specifically interested in the following research areas:
- Consumer behaviour
- Retailing
- Online marketing
- Relationship marketing
- International marketing and strategy
- Marketing Education
The group maintains a vibrant research environment which includes (a) a successful doctoral programme (b) an internal seminar series where doctoral students and group members present their work, and (c) an external seminar series where distinguished marketing scholars from other leading universities deliver talks. Recent speakers at the seminar series include Prof. Nick Lee (WBS), Prof. Luigi De Luca (Cardiff) and Prof. Rajesh Bhargave (Imperial).
There is a strong emphasis in the group on research-led and practice-based teaching. We recognise the importance attached to preparing students for the real world and this reflects how we deliver our lectures, seminars and workshops. Several members of the group come from a marketing practice background. Bringing this practical experience into the classroom helps us to prepare our students for a career in marketing. Group members take a reflective approach to their teaching and update teaching materials in response to the rapid changes taking place in marketing.
We have strong links with external organisations, including the Chartered Institute of Marketing (CIM), Europe’s largest professional marketing body. For example, we were one of the first Business Schools in the UK to establish a marketing club with the CIM. This collaboration brings together marketing practitioners and marketing students. Events held throughout the year give students an opportunity to attend a talk by a marketing practitioner and network with marketers employed in a wide range of marketing roles.
