Welcome to the Science, Society and Sustainability (3S) Group in the School of Environmental Sciences at UEA.
We conduct research to understand, and potentially transform, relations between science, innovation and society in responding to the unprecedented sustainability challenges facing our world. Our work has led to long-term and transformative impacts on science, society, public policy, and industry across a range of sustainability domains, especially energy, climate change, innovation and natural hazards. 3S was established in 2011.
Through over £5 million of research funding (from ESRC, EPSRC, NERC, the Leverhulme Trust, EU FP7 & H2020, UKERC, DEFRA, Sciencewise, BIS, E.On, EdF, British Gas and more) over the past decade 3S researchers have pioneered a new approaches for understanding and transforming the social dimensions of sustainability and innovation processes. This work has developed new ways of thinking about societal engagement in sustainability, helped us to understand and develop new practices of societal engagement, and contributed towards transforming institutions and systems.
We teach on topics across environmental social science and human geography, and are particularly enthusiastic about using innovative approaches in our teaching, such as comedy improvisation, interactive workshops, and social media.
