Biography

Alia is a doctoral researcher specialising in the intersection of intellectual property, information technology, and media law. She holds an LLM in these fields and is currently completing her doctoral research at the University of East Anglia.

Alia's research focuses on patent system examination guidelines and the theoretical underpinnings of assessing Artificial Intelligence-related inventions. Particularly, Alia's research is focused on the question of the potential impact of AI on patentability standards. Alia's research aims to contextualise the impact of innovation policies on the public good within legal and socioeconomic frameworks. Her work contributes to ongoing discussions about adapting intellectual property frameworks to technological advancements.

Alia has presented her research at several international conferences and won the Diane Rowland BILETA prize for best Postgraduate Research Paper. She is an active member of the Center for Competition Policy and a co-leader of the TechnoLawgy Collective Research Group, contributing to policy discussions and academic discourse in her field.

Beyond her research, Alia is committed to promoting inclusive education and knowledge sharing within the academic community. She has participated in initiatives and programs aimed at increasing understanding of students' experiences in different contexts. 

Alia's interdisciplinary approach and dedication to addressing complex legal challenges in the digital age position her as an emerging thought leader in technology law and policy.

 
 

Teaching Interests

Alia is an Associate Fellow of the Higher Education Academy. 

As an associate tutor, she has been responsible for facilitating seminars and assessing student work. Alia developed a thorough understanding of effective teaching methods in different fundamental areas of law.

Alia's academic duties have also encompassed marking assessment papers and providing student mentorship. These experiences have enhanced her ability to offer constructive feedback and support students in their academic journey.
