Biography

Alia is a doctoral researcher specialising in the intersection of intellectual property, information technology, and media law. She holds an LLM in these fields and is currently completing her doctoral research at the University of East Anglia.

Alia's research focuses on patent system examination guidelines and the theoretical underpinnings of assessing AI-assisted inventions. Particularly, Alia's research is providing a revolutionary framework to answer contemporary questions on the patent system and Innovation Policies.

Alia has presented her research at several international conferences and has been recognised with multiple awards, including the Diane Rowland BILETA prize for best Postgraduate Research Paper and the first-place prize in the 4iP Research Award. She is an active member of the Centre for Competition Policy and a co-leader of the TechnoLawgy Collective Research Group, contributing to policy discussions and academic discourse in her field.

Beyond her research, Alia is committed to promoting inclusive education and knowledge sharing within the academic community. She is a visiting lecturer at City St George's and has extensive experience in teaching and assessment across multiple institutions, including King's College London. She has participated in initiatives and programs aimed at increasing understanding of students' experiences in different contexts.

Alia's interdisciplinary approach and dedication to addressing complex legal challenges in the digital age position her as an emerging thought leader in technology law and policy.

Teaching Interests

Alia is an Associate Fellow of the Higher Education Academy. 

As a Visiting Lecturer, she has gained extensive experience in facilitating lectures, leading seminars, and designing scaffolded assessments, developing a deep understanding of effective teaching methods across fundamental legal areas, including Constitutional Law and Intellectual Property Rights.
