Death and desire in women’s writing of the Blitz

My project explores how women authors and diarists used the language associated with psychoanalysis when thinking and writing about the bombed landscapes of the Blitz. I have a particular interest in mingled notions of death and desire in these works. My research interests include twentieth century women’s writing, modernism, psychoanalysis, representations of war in the 1940s and 50s, the body in literature, and American nuclear culture.

Academic Background

I previously studied at the University of Southampton, where I completed a BA in English and an MA in English Literary Studies. My dissertation looked at fictional representations of the nuclear shelter in American nuclear culture.
