Personal profile

Academic Background

I am the scientific group leader for RNA research at Norwich Medical School. I first trained as a biomedical scientist at Addenbrooke’s Hospital in Cambridge before completing my PhD at the University of East Anglia with a focus on microRNA and bone sarcoma. I undertook postdoctoral training at UEA expanding on this work, developing single-cell RNA sequencing in circulating tumour cells, before setting up my own group in 2018.

Key Research Interests

We use molecular techniques and computational approaches to study RNA silencing in paediatric cancer. Our research is a mix of discovery and translational with projects ranging from fundamental mechanisms to drug development. Our laboratory is based at the medical school on the Norwich Research Park, which is 1 of 5 BBSRC funded research and innovation campuses in the UK, and one of the largest concentrations of life sciences researchers in Europe. On the park, there are four other research institutes, the 6th largest teaching hospital in the UK and more than 50 biotech spinouts and startups. The multidisciplinary campus has enabled rapid collaboration across academic, clinical and industry sectors, as well as access to state-of-the-art research facilities and scientific and clinical expertise.
