Personal profile
Biography
I graduated with a 1st class (HONS) degree in Analytical Chemistry and before teaching, worked for several years in industrial laboratories. Since graduating from the UEA Primary PGCE, I have taught across Key Stage 2 and held several senior management positions within schools in the region, including Head of Year, literacy and Curriculum coordinator. I also completed an MA in Education in 2012. Science has always been my passion and I have coordinated the subject for many years, gaining a Silver Primary Science Quality Mark for one of my schools during this time. I am a member of the Association for Science Education and sit on the Norfolk and Suffolk Regional Committee. I am also on the governing body for a local primary school, which has been recognised for the quality of its science teaching. I currently work predominatly on the Primary PGCE course but also contribute to the MA in Educational Practice and Research, as well as the BA in Education and the Introduction to Teaching Skills courses.
Key Research Interests
My particular areas of research interest revolve around the development of science capital in primary teachers and how this influences the quality of their science teaching. I am also interested in how non-science specialists develop their identity as a teacher of science in primary schools.
