Elise is a PhD candidate in American Studies. Their thesis reads the destruction of the Twin Towers on 9/11 in an ecocritical frame. The project synthesises affect theory and ecocriticism to create a New York-specific theory of the Ecology of the City.
Their wider academic interests include the Israel-Palestine conflict, decolonising the academy, climate humanities, affect theory, trauma theory, architecture, and space and place.
Elise's MA is from the University of East Anglia, where they won the prize of best dissertation in American Studies. Their BA is in English from St Hugh's College, Oxford.
