I am an educational anthropologist who is interested in the relationship between schooling, society and social change. My PhD research is about the ways in which schooling produces social change in a rural community in Eastern Uganda, home to the Gisu ethnic group. I pay attention to the particular way in which schooling is refracted through, and changes, various aspects of Gisu social and cultural life. My PhD research is an ethnographic project in which the typical qualitative methods employed in ethnographies - interviews, participant observation - are combined with a large scale survey. I expect to submit my thesis in March 2023
My postdoctoral project, started on the first of february 2023, is about the problem of inequality of opportunity in Dutch Education. Together with my colleagues at the Radboud University in Nijmengen (the Netherlands), we try to design a serious policy game that addresses this problem and helps to create collective action networks to tackle it.
