Personal profile
Biography
I am a Lecturer in Business at the Norwich Business School of the University of East Anglia, a member of the Norwich Business School Finance Group, and an Associate at the Centre for Social and Economic Research on the Global Environment (CSERGE) School of Environmental Sciences of the University of East Anglia.
I am an applied economist and data analyst interested in empirical applications exploring the sustainability dimensions of economy and society, and in the use of quantitative information to support private and public stakeholders at all levels of decision making. My research focuses on empirical and interdisciplinary applications exploring the relationship between nature, economy, and society, with a specialisation on methods and models for ecosystem services valuation, ecosystem accounting, measurement of wellbeing and sustainability.
I joined the Norwich Business School in 2023. My former positions include Research Fellow at the Centre for Social and Economic Research on the Global Environment School of Environmental Sciences of the University of East Anglia and Senior Data Analyst at the Centre for Environment, Fisheries and Aquaculture Science.
I have a PhD in Applied Statistics from the University of Naples Parthenope in Italy on the measurement of societal wellbeing and a MSc in Environmental Economics from the University of Siena in Italy on methods and models for environmental valuation.
Key Research Interests
Ecosystem Services Valuation and Accounting, Environmental Management, Marine Resources Management, Bioeconomy, Sustainable Food System, Measurement of Individual and Societal Wellbeing, Consumer Preferences, Statistical and Econometric Methods, Green Finance, ESG.
Areas of Expertise
I specialise in quantitative methods for measurement of sustainable development, economic valuation of ecosystem services, ecosystems accounting, measurement of individual and societal wellbeing. I have applied a wide range of econometric and statistical techniques to different topics in the fields of sustainable development, such as renewable energy, food systems, agri-environmental systems, bioeconomy, natural resources and ecosystems management, natural capital accounting, consumer preferences and attitudes.
I am particularly interested in exploring societal private and public preferences and attitudes for the sustainable use of natural resources using quantitative approaches and examining the transition to sustainable societies. Current projects I am involved in this field include the NERC SMMR Project “Pyramids of Life” on sustainable fisheries management and fish consumption and the NERC Project "Benthic-Offshore Wind Interactions" on offshore wind energy development. I have previously worked in the GCRF-BBSRC Project "GROW Colombia" to explore UK and Colombian consumers’ preferences towards agroforestry and sustainable agricultural systems.
My research is strongly inclined towards working with business organisations, policy makers and stakeholders, and providing information and evidence for real-world decision making at all levels. Examples of collaborations include projects with the European Commission Joint Research Centre to develop their ecosystem accounting framework, with DEFRA to inform the new agricultural incentives scheme working with Brown & Co, with the Office for National Statistics/DEFRA to develop a proof-of-concept for the now official natural capital accounts, with Marine Scotland on future marine protection policies, and with Cefas on ecosystem management trade-offs.
