Biography
I’m Gem and I work in UEA’s Outreach team as a Mature Student Advisor. My role supports students throughout the student lifecycle, supporting those studying on Access to Higher Education pathways in colleges and in the community to return to education and progress into university. For those that choose to come to UEA, they will likely encounter me and colleagues from UEASU in welcoming them to the university and advertising opportunities and services available to them.
I have my own experience of being a mature student – I had twins when I was young and took a break from study. I progressed to UEA by completing a BTEC national diploma and an A-level, moving to Norwich from Kings Lynn to settle down into parent-student life in a new city; it took me a little while, but I got my degree and have a fantastic role helping students who I relate to by providing information, advice and guidance.
