Academic Background

Henrietta studies the evolution and functional diversity of plant immunity, with an emphasis on comparing distantly related plants such as Marchantia polymorpha (non-flowering) and Nicotiana benthamiana (flowering).

In particular, Henrietta focusses on understanding how broad host range bacterial pathogens use different classes of virulence effector proteins to cause disease, and how plants detect these effectors to activate similar or contrasting immune responses.

Henrietta is based at the Carella Lab at the John Innes Centre.
