Academic Background

Jacob studied an undergraduate degree in Computing with Electronics, and a PhD in Computing entitled, "Language Identification Using Visual Features". He has worked in the areas of speech recogntion, computational biology, and medical computing.

Areas of Expertise

Jacob's research interests include applications of deep neural networks, machine learning, speech recogniton and signal processing. He is particularly interested in processing of medical time-series data and computer lip-reading.

Career

  1. 2023 - Present: Re-joined CMP as a Lecturer.
  2. 2021 - 2023: Jacob joined the Research and Specialist Computing Support (RSCS) team as a Research Software Engineer.
  3. 2017 - 2021: Jacob worked as the Senior Research Associate on a project funded by the Medical Research Council to develop a device and associated computer algorithms for assessing patients with dizziness: The Continuous Ambulatory Vestibular Assessment (CAVA) project. Working with Professor Stephen Cox and Professor John Phillips.
  4. 2010 - 2017: UEA/John Innes Centre working in Cell and Developmental Biology, under Professor Andrew Bangham and Professor Enrico Coen.
