Academic Background

My research combines ecological modelling, large-scale spatial analysis and field-based empirical studies to examine the impacts of environmental change on biodiversity. Current work includes exploring how movement behaviour influences range-scale responses of birds to climate change, with a particular focus on migratory species. Other projects include examining how agricultural land-use decisions can be optimised to protect biodiversity and ecosystem services, spanning options from fine-scale land-sharing interventions to large-scale 'rewilding'.

Key Research Interests and Expertise

My research combines field and theoretical approaches to answer key questions in ecology and conservation. I'm particularly interested in spatial population dynamics and how these influence population responses to environmental change (land-use and climate), with a particular focus on migratory birds.

To examine this we are studying the mechanisms that underpin individual movement decisions, and how these give rise to different patterns at the population scale. Other projects involve quantifying and mapping biodiversity in space, using remote-sensing and species distribution modelling techniques to inform spatial conservation activities.
