Academic Background

Dr Jean Smith is a scholar of race and migration in twentieth-century Britain and the (former) British Empire. Currently working with Camilla Schofield on the AHRC-funded project, 'When racism became taboo: Intolerance, Anonymity and the Public Sphere in England, 1960-1990', Dr Smith previously held appointments at King's College London and the University of Leeds. Her first book, Settlers at the End of Empire: Race and Migration in the United Kingdom, South Africa and Rhodesia, 1939-1994 is under contract with Manchester University Press.
