Academic Background

John Steciuk is British-Ukrainian writer from Manchester. In 2017, he graduated with a distinction from the Creative Writing MA at the University of East Anglia, where he was a recipient of the Difference Scholarship. His fiction has appeared in Litro magazine and NewWriting.net, and has been shortlisted for the Galley Beggar Short Story Prize and Penguin Random House’s Write Now program. The manuscript for his collection of linked stories — titled The Reservoirs Are Colder And Deeper Than You Think — was recently longlisted for the Deborah Rogers Foundation Writers' Award. Each of the collection’s twelve stories take place in the fictional town of Midden — a strange, wind-battered 'home for the insane' in the post-industrial north of England.

 

John is currently based in Norwich, where he studying for a PhD in Creative and Critical Writing. His thesis examines depictions of mental illness and masculinity in the short stories of Kevin Barry.
