Academic Background
Jorge Ruiz is a PhD student in Film Studies at the University of East Anglia (UEA) in England awarded with the Faculty of Arts and Humanities Postgraduate Research Studentship. He is developing an interdisciplinary project on filmmaking as a collaborative tool for indigenous communities in the Peruvian Amazon to develop their own narratives and social skills in order to challenge hegemonic colonial discourses and social structures. He holds a degree in Social Communication from la Universidad Nacional Mayor de San Marcos (UNMSM) in Peru, an MA in Film Studies from UEA, and since 2020 is a lecturer and course coordinator for the Universidad Peruana de Ciencias Aplicadas (UPC) in Peru.
