Biography
I am an Associate Professor in Public Health in the Norwich Medical School at the University of East Anglia and the current Past President of the International Society for Physical Activity and Health (ISPAH).
With a research background in physical activity and a PhD in public health policy, my work focuses primarily on the interface between research and policy. I am interested in how to gain greater political traction for the physical activity and health agenda, the use of scientific evidence to inform policy decision making and public health guidelines, and how to modify structures, environments, and opportunities, at scale, to support populations to be more active.
I have acted as an advisor to a range of national and international health promotion agencies including the Australian Heart Foundation, the Department of Health in England, and the World Health Organization (WHO). I was on the Strategic Advisory Network for the development of the WHO Global Action Plan on Physical Activity 2018 – 2030 and a member of the Guideline Development Group for the 2020 WHO guidelines on physical activity and sedentary behaviour.
