Katie Beck is a Lecturer in Nursing Science and Course Director for the MSc Advanced Professional Practice. She is also module lead for the Advanced Clinical Assessment Module and International Placements Project Lead. Katie teaches across a range of pre- and post-registration programmes within the School with a focus on academic skills and global health. Katie qualified as a registered adult nurse in 2011 and worked in acute care before perusing a career in global and expedition nursing. Katie was International Medical Lead at an International NGO for a number of years and continues to provide health, wellbeing and safeguarding advice to a number of other international non-governmental organisations. She is an Honorary Clinical Lecture in Extreme Medicine at Exeter University, Interim Director of The Diploma in Tropical Nursing at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine, and member of the Fellowship of Extreme and Wilderness Medicine. She has an MA in Higher Education Practice, and has particular research interests in the value and ethics of pre-registration and early career international healthcare work experience.
