Biography

Lauren is a Specialist Speech and Language Therapist and a Lecturer in the School of Health Sciences at the University of East Anglia. Lauren holds a University Teaching Fellowship in Inclusive Education and is the project lead for the Communication Access Project across the University of East Anglia, which aims to improve communication accessibility.

Lauren is passionate about inclusion and accessibility within Higher Education and is also the School Academic Lead for Athena Swan. Lauren is the Chair of the School Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Committee.

Key Research Interests

Lauren is interested in the teacher-student relationship within Higher Education and this is the focus of her PhD. She is leading several research projects around communication access, inclusivity, relational pedagogy and belonging, including leading an impact evaluation project focused on relational pedagogy.

Lauren is also interested and involved in researching clinical eaducation in healthcare programmes and advanced practice education. She is currently a collaborator on a NHS England project to undertake work in this area.

Teaching Interests

Lauren teaches across pre- and post-registration programmes within the School with a focus on advanced professional practice, leadership, stammering and developmental language disorder

Lauren leads the Managing Youself & Leading Others core module on the Advanced Professional Practice pathway and also leads the option module on Clinical Decision Making. Lauren supervises students across the lifespan of their Quality Improvement projects out in practice. 

Within the Speech and Language Therapy pre-registration programme, Lauren leads the Stuttering & Cluttering module, and also teaches across a range of other modules including Speech & Language Delay Disorder, Practice Education, Foundations. Lauren also supervises final year dissertation students. 

Career

Lauren qualified as a registered Speech & Language Therapist in 2006 and has over 17 years of experience from both public and private sectorsLauren continues to be active in clinical practice and has a passion for early intervention and raising awareness about speech, language and communication needs
