Academic Background

Dr. Louise Grisedale is an Associate Professor, Course Director, and registered pharmacist with extensive experience in pharmacology, prescribing education, advanced practice, and quality assurance in healthcare education. She leads the MSc Advanced Professional Practice (APP) and the Independent Prescribing (IP) programmes at the School of Health Sciences, University of East Anglia (UEA), overseeing the education, training, and competency development of multi-professional learners in advanced healthcare roles.

Since joining UEA in 2019, Louise has brought real-world pharmacy expertise into academia, shaping the next generation of healthcare professionals and prescribing practitioners. In 2022, she was appointed Course Director for the Independent Prescribing programme, and in 2024, she expanded her leadership to include the MSc Advanced Professional Practice Programme, ensuring both align with workforce needs, regulatory requirements, and best practices in healthcare education.

Louise completed her PhD in Pharmaceutical Material Sciences at UEA in 2009, specialising in the physicochemical characterisation of amorphous pharmaceuticals and the development of novel thermal and spectroscopic techniques (funded by GlaxoSmithKline). She gained her Master of Pharmacy (MPharm) with First-Class Honours from Liverpool John Moores University, undertaking her pre-registration training with Bristol-Myers Squibb Pharmaceutical Research Institute and St Helens & Knowsley NHS Trust.

Louise's research and professional interests focus on enhancing the quality, governance, and regulatory alignment of advanced healthcare education, with particular expertise in:

  • Quality assurance and regulatory compliance in education – ensuring alignment with Professional, Statutory & Regulatory Bodies (PSRBs) and sector-wide accreditation standards
  • Governance of Independent Prescribing education – supporting regulatory frameworks, competency assurance, and workforce development strategies
  • Competency-based assessment and ePortfolios – driving innovation in learner evaluation, digital assessment strategies, and regulatory oversight
  • Interprofessional learning – facilitating high-quality learning experiences by integrating NMC, HCPC, and GPhC standards and practitioners to enhance education quality and workforce readiness
  • Prescribing safety and medicines optimisation – influencing best practice standards in education, governance, and clinical application

Beyond her academic roles, Louise regularly contributes regionally, providing Non-Medical Prescribing (NMP) updates to healthcare professionals. She also serves as a consultant in Medicines Management on behalf of UEA Consulting Ltd, supporting external organisations in healthcare education, prescribing governance, and regulatory compliance.

Louise is a Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (SFHEA) and holds an MA in Higher Education Practice (MAHEP). Her expertise is widely recognised through conference presentations on innovations and advancements in teaching, published case studies and ontributions to book chapters on healthcare education.

She remains committed to advancing prescribing and advanced practice education through research, and sector-wide collaboration, ensuring high standards of patient care, professional development, and regulatory compliance.
