Personal profile

Academic Background

I come from a very broad academic background, transitioning from Humanities to Social Sciences. While my undergraduate background is in Humanities (Theology, minor in Philosophy) (FTPCL, Peru), I have a MSc in Social ethics (FTPCL, Peru) and a MSc in Poverty Reduction (SOAS, UK).

I also had training in Public Policy and Public Budgeting (CEPAL, Chile) and Impact evaluation and monitoring (UNESCO and PUCP, Peru).

My PhD research focuses on substantive and methodological contributions within an impact evaluation in six Latin American countries measuring non-cognitive outcomes in schools such as parental engagement, social cohesion and socioemotional skills.

Biography

Originally from Brazil, I had the opportunity to live and work in different countries: Brazil, Argentina, Peru, Colombia and El Salvador.

While I started working at NGO level with the community and rural development and integrated health services, I transitioned to public policy (National director of rural housing in Peru and performance budgeting both in Peru and El Salvador), and I am integrating that field and public experience within a policy research focus on impact evaluation design and methodological developments.

I have experience working with projects within international cooperation (GIZ, CIDA) and multilateral agencies such as World Bank, UNESCO and UNICEF.

Administrative Posts

I've been an AT in modules related to Latin American Development and Human Geography (Chile)

Key Research Interests

My research interests intersect social and public policy and rigorous mixed-methods evaluation within developing contexts.

My focus is on measuring poverty and inequality and understanding how they influence a diverse set of social processes such as parental engagement in schools or well-being interventions (avoiding hospitalisations of older frail people).
