Biography

Dr Lucill Curtis is the Associate Dean, Internationalisation for the Social Science Faculty (SSF), UEA. She is also an Associate Professor of Marketing and a member of the executive team, within Norwich Business School (NBS). Prior to joining the Faculty of Social Sciences at UEA, on 1 September 2017, Lucill taught at Essex Business School. Prior to that she worked within marketing communications management for more than 16 years, within the pharmaceutical and healthcare sector, local government and as a marketing consultant, where she achieved 10 awards for excellence in leadership, PR and marketing.

She leads modules for undergraduates, postgraduates and short courses for Industry professionals, including a focus on Digital Marketing (Industry 4.0) and Social Media and Marketing and Customer Focus. Her current research and consultancy interests relate to digital marketing; specifically consumer responses to digital technologies in higher education and organisations  Details of her publications to date can be found on: https://eastanglia.academia.edu/DrLucillCurtis

She has also presented at various national and international management and marketing conferences. A pedagogical research project that she worked on recently was shortlisted for an International e-Learning Excellence award. During the last few years she has worked on several externally funded consultancy projects, focussing on the online customer journey and experience, where recommendations have been made to improve brand touchpoints, enhance brand awareness and increase sales. Her other community projects to date include the following:

  1. 2026: Phase Two: Leading a collaborative community based Digital Literacy project in partnership with Norwich-based charity Break that works across East Anglia making life better for young people on the edge of care, in care and leaving care.
  2. 2025 Leading a collaborative community based Digital Literacy project in partnership with Norwich-based charity Break that works across East Anglia making life better for young people on the edge of care, in care and leaving care, together with Sam Edwards, from Norwich-based Yawn Marketing. 
  3. 2025/2026 Knowledge Exchange Plus Scheme Award, Technical market appraisal for Edibl 
  4. 2024 Project to market the NBS Evolve Wellbeing Toolkit to regional businesses; application for funding with Creative Catalyst, Innovate UK, part of UK Research and Innovation.
  5. 2023 Project with Coastal Health, including a refresh of their website to accurately reflect current business activities and improve SEO ranking, funded by the Broadland Food Innovation Centre initiative, an £11.4 million European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) project.
  6. 2023 Project with R. Biscuits, including a digital marketing strategy and plan development, to improve search engine optimisation (SEO), funded by the Broadland Food Innovation Centre initiative.
  7. 2023 Project with Oichi Ferments, including a digital distribution and product development strategy, funded by the Broadland Food Innovation Centre initiative.
  8. 2022 Project with Wildcraft Brewery, including market research and digital marketing solutions, funded by the Broadland Food Innovation Centre initiative.
  9. 2022 Project with Bruha Brewing to create, write and design a strategic branding booklet to be used as a digital sales aid, funded by the Broadland Food Innovation Centre initiative

Lucill holds a BA (Hons) in English Literature, Postgraduate diplomas in Journalism, PR and Education, and an MBA (distinction) for which she received a Chartered Management Institute Award in 2012. Her PhD focussed on digital marketing, specifically social media management in B2B organisations. She is a Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (SFHEA), a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Marketing (FCIM), a member of the Chartered Institute of PR (MCIPR) and a Certified Management and Business Educator (CMBE).

I am the module leader for the second year UG module, NBS-5122B Digital Marketing and the MBA Module Marketing and Customer Focus.

I was the NBS Director of Admissions, Recruitment and Marketing from January 2019 to 1st August, 2025.

I was also previously the Undergraduate Programme Director and the Course Director for the BA Marketing and Management degree course -  ranked 6th in the UK [Marketing and Public Relations] in the Guardian League Tables 2023.
