Academic Background
Mark gained his first degree from Nottingham University in 1988, and then spent three years at the Medical Research Council's Applied Psychology Unit (now the Cognition and Brain Sciences Unit) in Cambridge, completing his PhD in 1991. Many years later he completed a post graduate diploma in Sports Science at Loughborough University having realised he lacked the knowledge and skills to carry out research on body movement and emotion. He joined UEA in January 2020.

Dr Mark Coulson (PSY) interviewed about research from Stetson University in Florida which found that the long-term relationship between playing aggressive video games and players’ aggressive behaviour was very small and largely explained by poor practice (Jul 2020)
