Academic Background

I completed by BA(Hons) in History at Clare College, Cambridge, specialising in US civil rights history.  This led to an MA by Research (MRes) at the University of Leeds, which focused on a US civil rights organisation called the Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee.  Further study at Leeds for my PhD in History expanded my academic interests into media history and the history of the Gay Liberation movement in the United States. I continue to be interested in the way that social activism is (and was) covered in the media and how this influences our understanding of historical and contemporary liberation struggles.

I have since taken up several academic-related posts that focus on social mobility and educational equality in the United Kingdom with an emphasis on the evaluation of outreach activity.

Please feel free to contact me on projects related to my research, teaching, or other interests via email -
