Mikayla graduated as a registered Children's Nurse in 2007 from the University of Hertfordshire. Following this, Mikayla thoroughly enjoyed working in a wide range of acute settings, such as, children's wards, children's assessment units and children's accident and emergency; ensuring the physical and mental health needs of children and young people were met, adopting a child-centred and family-centred care approach. Additionally, Mikayla worked in a school for physically and neurologically impaired young people aged from 3 to 18 years. Here Mikayla developed a passion for caring for children with complex healthcare needs and disabilities.
Mikayla furthered her nurse training through completion of additional courses including, Caring for Children and Young People with Cancer, Recognition of the Sick Child, and High Dependency Care of the Acutely Ill Child and Young Person.
During the Coronavirus pandemic in 2020-2021, Mikayla utilised her transferable skills and joined the adult nursing workforce, caring for sick adults requiring high dependency and intensive nursing care.
Mikayla began her exciting career trajectory as a Nursing Lecturer at the University of East Anglia in 2021. She is passionate about educating and empowering the future nursing workforce for children and young people, to deliver safe, effective and high-quality care.
