Academic Background
I am a marine microbiologist and my main interest is in the genetics of phytoplankton.
I studied for a Master in Geobiology and Paleobiology at the University of Munich (LMU) before I started my PhD in Environmental Sciences in 2018. For my project at UEA, I apply ribosome profiling to reveal how temperature, which is one of the most important growth factors, affects translation in diatoms. I also use CRISPR/Cas9 to provide insights how codon usage, tRNA abundance and tRNA-derived small non-coding RNAs impact protein synthesis in diatoms under changing environmental conditions.
