Naomi Harte

Dr Naomi Harte is a Lecturer in Education, Physical Education and Sport in the School of Education & Lifelong Learning. She joined the school in January 2026. Prior to working at UEA, Naomi completed a PhD in 2025 at Loughborough University, in the School of Sport, Exercise and Health Sciences. Following completion of her doctorate, Naomi held a 6-month research and teaching post in the Faculty of Education at Monash University, Australia. Naomi spent 6 years teaching psychology in secondary schools in England and on Jersey. 

Naomi holds a BA (Hons) in Sociology with Social Psychology from the University of York, an MSc in Psychology from the University of East London, and a PGCE in Social Sciences from the Institute of Education.

Naomi is a member of the Sport, Health and Education (SHE) Research Group. Her research interests lie in exploring teachers’ practices and students’ experiences of health and physical activity education and promotion in physical education. She is particularly interested in working with teachers and students, through focus groups and creative-based methods to enhance their experiences. Naomi has published several papers from her PhD and has attended international conferences to present her work.

Naomi’s methodological expertise lies across qualitative and quantitative methods. Her PhD adopted a mixed methods approach, which included conducting a teacher online survey, student questionnaires and student focus groups, with participatory creative tasks. She brings strengths in qualitative and participatory research and analysis, informed by Education as Growth Theory, alongside experience in working with quantitative datasets, drawing on Self-Determination Theory and applying Latent Profile Analysis.  

Naomi is the International Association for Physical Education in Higher Education (AIESEP) Early Career Researcher (ECR) SIG Chair-Elect.

Naomi is an Associate Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (AFHEA) and teaches across the undergraduate Education and Physical Education, Sport and Health (PESH) degree clusters. She is currently teaching on the following modules: Education, Theory & Practice, Health, Fitness & Training, and Sport & Exercise Psychology.
