Nathan Ashman is Lecturer in Crime Writing. He teaches on the MA in Crime Fiction and is the convenor of the undergraduate module ‘The Art of Murder’. He has previously held teaching posts at both the University of Surrey and the University of Gloucestershire. He is the author of James Ellroy and Voyeur Fiction (Rowman and Littlefield, 2018), Crime Fiction and Ecology: From the Local to the Global (Cambridge University Press, 2025) and James Sallis: A Companion to the Mystery Fiction (MacFarland 2024), which was shortlisted for an 2025 Edgar Award in the best critical/biographical category. He is also the editor of The Routledge Handbook of Crime Fiction and Ecology (Routledge, 2023). Elshwhere, he has published articles on writers such as Ross Macdonald, E.C Bentley, Don DeLillo, Megan Abbott and Walter Mosley. His research spans the fields of crime fiction, contemporary American fiction and ecocriticism.
