Key Research Interests and Expertise

My research focuses on the relationship between war museums and memorials and public memory in a Japanese context. Funded by the University of Sheffields GLOSS initiative, I conducted research on forgotten air raid memorials in Kyoto, Japan, known as a city undamaged by war. This considers the gaps between national and local war narratives and the challenges facing local narratives that contradict national narratives. I am continuing this line of inquiry through my master's course and broadening my focus to include the war narratives of other Japanese regions including Okinawa.
