Academic Background

I am passionate about education. I enjoy facilitating students to achieve their potential and developing new parts of the curriculum.

Current Positions

I am the Course Director for the post graduate education courses PG Cert/ Dip / Masters in Clinical Education. These are multi-professional courses and they are run in a variety of modes; face to face, fully on line and General Practice mode. They are available full time or part time. The courses provide training for health professionals to learn more about educational theory and practice and provide opportunity to undertake work based reflection, projects and research. The courses are accredited for membership of the Higher Education Academy.

I am the Leadership Lead for the Norwich Medical School. I encourage all students to generate ideas and leadership projects. I want all students to gain experience and confidence in leadership to develop future leaders for the NHS. In collaboration with a team from the UEA Business School and the Norfolk and Norwich NHS Hospital trust, I run the undergraduate leadership curriculum. We run workshops for all students and Student Selected Studies in Year 1 and Year 3. I am the Reflective Practice lead for year 5.

I support and supervise a number of other student projects in education and leadership.

I am a Problem Based Learning tutor

I am trained in coaching. I am a staff mentor and coach.

I am a school governor.

Academic History

I qualified as a doctor from University College London (UCL) in 1991. After qualification as a GP, I spent a year training in research and teaching on the London Academic Training Scheme. I worked as an inner-city London GP and lecturer at UCL for 10 years where I researched and developed undergraduate teaching in General Practice. At that time this was new, and I supported the development of University Linked Practices.

In 2007 I moved to Norwich and joined the Norwich Medical School. My first post was as an associate tutor for PBL. I became a Clinical Skills Lecturer in 2008. I was fascinated by the pedagogy of PBL and undertook an EdD at UEA to enable me to explore the PBL learning environment.

Head of PBL from 2013 to 2018.

Head of Year 2 from 2011 to 2021.
