I am passionate about education. I enjoy facilitating students to achieve their potential and developing new parts of the curriculum.
Current Positions
I am Course Director for the Post Graduate Clinical Education Courses (PG Cert/ Dip/ Masters in Clinical Education). We run multiprofessional, face to face and on line courses, that are available full-time or part-time. The courses provide training for health care professionals to learn more about educational theory and practice, and provide opportunities to undertake work based reflection, projects and research. The PG Cert courses are accredited for membership of the Higher Education Academy.
I am the Leadership Lead for the Norwich Medical School. I encourage students to generate ideas and leadership projects. I want all students to gain experience and confidence in leadership to develop future leaders for the NHS. In collaboration with a team from the UEA Business School and the Norfolk and Norwich NHS Hospital trust, we run leadership workshops for undergraduate and postgraduates. We run Student Selected Studies in Year 1 and Year 3.
I support and supervise several projects in education and leadership.
I am trained in coaching and mentoring.
I am a school governor.
Academic History
I qualified as a doctor from University College London (UCL) in 1991. I trained as a GP in North London and joined the London Academic Training Scheme to develop skills in teaching and research. I worked as an inner-city London GP and lecturer at UCL for 10 years where I researched and developed undergraduate teaching in General Practice, and supported the development of University Linked Practices.
In 2007 I moved to Norwich and took a post at the Norwich Medical School as an associate tutor for PBL. I became a Lecturer in Clinical Skills in 2008. I completed an EdD at UEA in 2018.
I was Head of PBL from 2013 to 2018 and Head of Year 2 from 2011 to 2021.
