Biography
Peter Dawson is an Associate Professor in Economics and is currently the School's Placement Director. He holds a PhD from the University of Hull, is an Associate of the Economics Network and a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy. Peter has extensive experience of the UK higher education sector having previously worked at the University of Bath and undertaken external examining positions at Imperial College London, Loughborough University, University of Sussex and University of Liverpool. His research is largely in the area of applied microeconometrics and he has developed applications in labour economics, education economics and, most notably, sport and leisure. Work in this latter area has focussed on the behaviour of agents (referees, managers and players) in sporting contests. Peter has also undertaken research into the impact of major sporting events, which has included the impact of the London 2012 Olympics on health, happiness and participation in sport. He has undertaken consultancy work for the Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport, Grant Thornton, Cambridge Econometrics, Sport England and Norwich City Football Club amongst others.
PhD Supervision Interests
Peters' area of interest is in applied microeconomics, with particular interests in education, labour economics and, most notably, the economics of sport and leisure. Work he has conducted in this latter area include: demand for professional team sports, decision-making of referees, club and managerial performance, and the impact of major sporting events including legacy effects.
