Biography

Philip Langeskov was born in Copenhagen in 1976. As an undergraduate, he studied English Language and Literature at UCL, after which he spent ten years working for bookshops and publishing companies in London, before coming to Norwich to study on the UEA MA in Creative Writing (Prose), which was soon followed by a PhD in Creative and Critical Writing. A short story writer, his fiction has been broadcast on BBC Radio 3’s The Verb and appeared in various places, including Untitled Books, Five DialsThe Warwick Review, Unthology, and Best British Short Stories 2011 2014. His first  book, Barcelona, was published by Daunt Books in 2013.

At UEA he co-convenes the MA Creative Writing (Prose) with Naomi Wood and teaches Creative Writing at all levels of the curriculum, from 1st year undergraduates to PhD supervision. He has a range of responsibilities outside his teaching role. He is Director of the Spring Literary Festival, which brings a range of writers of international standing to UEA. Recent guests have included George Saunders, Lionel Shriver, Ali Smith and Elif Shafak. In addition, he is co-director, with Nathan Hamilton, of the UEA Publishing Project, a major initiative intended to establish an innovative independent press at UEA. Among its initial publications are: the Keshiki Series, a collaboration between UEA, Writers' Centre Norwich and NUA to promote the work of emerging or neglected contemporary Japanese writers; Literary Activism, a collection of essays edited by Amit Chaudhuri; and Five Boiler House Poets.

He is particularly interested in supervising posgtgraduate research students who either write short stories or engage critically with the contemporary short story.
