Key Research Interests

My major research interest is the aetiopathogenesis, epidemiology, classification and treatment of various types of systemic vasculitis. Current studies:

DCVAS: Establishment of the DCVAS study on development of new classification and diagnostic criteria for systemic vasculitis.

Substudies i) investigating influence of ethnicity on disease phenotype and geoepidemiology, ii) role smoking on disease phenotype and outcome, iii) costs of vasculitis diagnosis

DELAYS IN VASCULITIS DIAGNOSIS: Developing project to investigate reasons for delay in diagnosis of vasculitis in primary and secondary care using CPRD general practice database

NORVAS: I continue to lead the NORVAS study on the epidemiology of vasculitis in Norfolk. This has now been running for 23 years and we have completed a 23-year analysis.

GENVAS: I am leading this nationwide study collecting DNA from AAV patients for genetic studies

GCANS: I am leading the setting up of this project to study the epidemiology and outcomes of giant cell arteritis (GCA). This will link with the EPIC-NORFOLK study which will provide prospectively collected data on risk factors for GCA.

IVIE: I am the Chief Investigator for this study. This will investigate the informational needs of carers of vasculitis patients, and is an extension of previous work.

UKIVAS: I am one of the two convenors of UK vasculitis network, which aims to develop a national network of linked vasculitis researchers with aim of developing new projects.
