Robert Jenkins recently joined the Norwich Business School to teach statistics after being a Learning Enhancement Tutor (specialising in Mathematics and Statistics) for over 10 years
In 2007 Robert was awarded the inaugural Sir Geoffrey and Lady Allen Excellence in Teaching Award. This prestigious UEA award was made largely on the basis of recommendations by students who have benefited from Robert's work.
Robert received a second UEA Excellence in Teaching Award in 2012/13 that recognised continued excellence and innovation in learning and teaching and a third as part of the University Teaching Fellow scheme in 2015. Robert also won a UUEAS Transforming Teaching Award for “Best Support Staff” in 2015 and was nominated in 2016. He also won the UEA Green Impact Environmental Hero Award in 2017 for his work in engaging students in handout reduction in his second year Quantitative Methods for Business Module.
Enthusiastic and passionate about mathematics and statistics, Robert has been at the forefront of teaching and learning innovation at UEA for many years. He has curated and created an extensive, interactive set of online maths resources to help students with their studies. He designed and ran workshops to help students re-engage with maths, employing a diverse array of pedagogical methods including blended, flipped and scenario-based learning. He is demostrating these approaches in the modules- he organises which revolve around quantitative methods and statistics.
Current interests include the communication of mathematics to and by students in learning environments. He is particularly interested in the language used by lecturers in the teaching and learning of mathematics and using rich scenarios to fully contextualise the learning of mathematics and statistics. In additon Robert is always keen to promote and validate mathematics support in higher education and highlighting the importance that mathematics plays in other degree subjects.
Finally he is passionate about encouraging closer links with businesses and works closely with both Marsh and Alan Boswell group to create and deliver immersive teaching events for students.
