Academic Background

Rui is a Lecturer in Economics and Senior Academic Advisor for the School of Economics. He received his Ph.D. from the University of Milan and taught before at UCL and Queen Mary, University of London. 

Rui's research interests are primarily in the areas of Political Economy and Behavioral Economics. His work combines behavioral insights and microeconometric tools to explore topics related to democratic decision-making (e.g., voting), the demand and supply of populism and other radical ideologies, the importance and malleability of institutions (i.e., the rules of the political game), and political discourse.
