Academic Background

Rui is a Lecturer in Economics and Senior Academic Advisor for the School of Economics. He received his Ph.D. from the University of Milan and taught before at UCL and Queen Mary, University of London. 

His research interests primarily focus on Behavioral Economics and Political Economy. Rui's current work concentrates on issues related to democratic decision-making (e.g., voting), the demand and supply of populism and other radical ideologies (mainly in Europe), the relevance and persistence of institutions (e.g., the "rules" of the political game), choice architecture & nudging (mainly applied to education & learning), and the determinants of scientific production in Economics.
