About

Dr. Satyaban Bishoyi Ratna is a Senior Scientist at the India Meteorological Department, India and Associate Fellow (Visitor) at the Climatic Research Unit, University of East Anglia, United Kingdom. His work aims to advance the knowledge of largescale ocean-atmosphere interactions and its influence on climate variability ranging from interannual to multidecadal time scales. The goal of his research is to understand physical processes that control the climate systems and to improve the ability to predict climate variability and change.

Background

Dr. Satyaban was formerly a Senior Research Associate at the Climatic Research Unit, School of Environmental Sciences-University of East Anglia, United Kingdom (2017-2021).  Prior to that he worked at Japan Agency for Marine-Earth Science and Technology (JAMSTEC), Japan (2010-2013, 2014-2017), Euro-Mediterranean Center on Climate Change (CMCC), Italy (2013-2014), and Centre for Development of Advanced Computing (CDAC), India (2008-2010).

He has a M.Sc degree in Oceanography and M.Tech. degree in Atmospheric Sciences. Later, he received Ph.D. in Meteorology from the Department of Meteorology and Oceanography, Andhra University, India, and his doctoral research was focused on the numerical modelling of Indian summer monsoon processes.
