Stephen Buoro was born in Nigeria in 1993. He studied for an MA in Creative Writing at the University of East Anglia where he was the 2018 recipient of the Booker Prize Foundation Scholarship. He has a first-class degree in Mathematics and is currently studying for a PhD in Creative-Critical Writing at UEA on a fully funded studentship. His research examines the dialectic of realism and suprarealistic genres (magical realism, Afrofuturism) in African literature. His debut novel, The Five Sorrowful Mysteries of Andy Africa, will be published in the UK and US by Bloomsbury in 2023. A portion of the novel was awarded second place in the 2020 Deborah Rogers Foundation Writers Award. He is represented by Nicola Chang of the David Higham Associates.
