Personal profile

Biography

I was appointed a full-time Lecturer in Business Management in November 2013, having studied my Masters in Business Administration (MBA) at Norwich Business School in 2010.  In the interim, I was involved with Norwich Business School both as a mentor for the students’ MBA consultancy projects and as an Associate Tutor, teaching marketing, organisational behaviour and consultancy skills.

I hold a Bsc Hons in Environmental Science – also from the University of East Anglia (UEA) and have been living in Norwich and South Norfolk after returning here in 1985.  For much of my career I have been able to combine my personal interest in the environment with an understanding and experience in marketing and fundraising for the charitable / not-for-profit sector.  I was Marketing Manager of Norfolk Wildlife Trust 17 years before a spell as a Development Manager at UEA, attached to the Faculty of Science, as well as being involved with the development education charity NEAD (Norfolk Education & Action for Development) as a trustee.

Now that I teach Business Management at Higher Education level I still believe that there is a place and a commercial imperative for business and industry to embrace environmental and ethical standards in the pursuit of responsible business practice.

I have been involved with the Graduate Trainee Management Scheme since its inception in 2012 and started a pilot scheme, the Do Good Campaign, in January 2014 as a way of allowing 2nd and 3rd year undergraduate students to engage with the local business community and apply their knowledge and skills in fundraising for a local charity.

Key Research Interests

I am interested in two specific areas of research: to know how business skills acquired by students at HE level (specifically UK Business Schools) may be transferable into the charitable / not-for- profit / charitable sector.  Specifically, I was to look at the match between the skills for marketing in SMEs and fundraising in the charitable sector.

I am also interested to explore the link between marketing and environmental reputation in UK SMEs – specifically to research examples where companies are motivated to pursue energy conservation measures beyond simple energy saving and into environmental responsibility territory.
