Academic Background
Award-winning filmmaker Vincent Du has produced more than twenty documentaries for international broadcasters and organisations including Al Jazeera, BBC, NHK, Channel NewsAsia, World Health Organization, Tencent, iQiyi, and China Central Television.
His recent works include China’s Pet ‘Economy’, which was a finalist for the Golden Nymph Awards in the News and Documentaries Category at the 2022 Monte-Carlo Television Festival. It also won the Gold Award at the 2022 World Media Festival. His A Day in Wuhan won in the General Documentary category at The Telly Awards 2021, and aired on Al Jazeera Arabic. His feature-length documentary Smog Town (NFF+IBF scheme, IDFA Bertha Fund), premiered in 2019 as part of the First Appearance Competition during the International Documentary Film Festival Amsterdam (IDFA), the world’s largest documentary film festival. It won best documentary awards at both the Millenium Documentary Film Festival in Belgium and DokuFest in Kosovo. His investigative documentary, Smuggling for Survival, aired on Channel NewsAsia and Al Jazeera English; and won Best Current Affairs Programme or Series at the Asian Academy Creative Awards in 2019. In the same year, his short film Fighting Against Air Pollution won Best Short Documentary at the China Academy Awards for Documentary Films, the country’s top awards for the genre.
As a producer, Vincent’s projects have received support from several prestigious film funds around the world, including the Sundance Documentary Fund, the IDFA Bertha Fund, the Netherlands Film Fund and the DMZ Documentary Fund.
Vincent is regularly invited to mentor young filmmakers at institutions and events such as the University of Hong Kong, One World Media's Global Short Docs Forum, Tokyo Docs, and the Korea Radio Promotion Association. He has served as the programmer of the Guangzhou International Documentary Film Festival in 2021 and 2024. He is also a member of the jury for the documentary category of the Cannes Corporate Media & TV Awards 2024.
